Support for the emotional, relational, and identity shifts that come with type 1 diabetes.
Therapy for adults in Colorado navigating the quiet mental load, chronic vigilance, and body‑based stress of life with diabetes.
Living with type 1 diabetes means carrying a mental and emotional workload most people never see. Numbers, alarms, decisions, overnight checks, invisible labor. It’s constant, and it’s personal. And while medical teams focus on glucose patterns, you’re left holding everything else: the stress, the fear, the frustration, the identity shifts, the relationship dynamics.
You don’t need to spend your sessions explaining the basics. We can start where you already are.
What therapy can support
Many of my clients come in navigating:
The ongoing mental fatigue of interpreting data, trends, and alarms
The way diabetes quietly reshapes dynamics in partnerships and families
The pressure to keep performing at work, in sport, or in parenting while managing a body that doesn’t always cooperate
The identity shifts that come with chronic illness, especially after years of being the steady one
The nervous‑system strain of living in a body that requires constant vigilance
The complex relationship with their body including resentment, grief, or feeling disconnected from a body that no longer feels predictable
This work isn’t about perfect numbers or rigid control. It’s about creating space for your emotional experience, strengthening your capacity, and helping you build a life that feels sustainable.
My approach
My background as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) allows us to move past the basics and into the deeper layers quickly. You don’t have to teach me what a CGM trend means or why overnight lows can feel destabilizing. We can focus on you: your nervous system, your relationships, your identity, your sense of ease.
I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), IFS/parts work, EMDR, somatic approaches, and attachment‑based perspectives. Together, we build awareness, flexibility, and resilience.
Who this page is for
This page is for adults in Colorado who live with type 1 diabetes or support someone who does. People who are high‑functioning, thoughtful, and often carrying more than they let on. People who are professionals, athletes, and caregivers. People who are grieving the loss of a way of life, who feel disconnected to their own bodies, who hate the highs and dread the lows. People who never truly get a day off.
People who are ready for therapy that meets them where they are.
