Specialized Virtual Therapy for Adults Living With Type 1 Diabetes & Chronic Health Conditions in Florida

Private‑pay telehealth therapy for Florida adults, parents, and high‑performing professionals who want a clinician who already understands the medical realities, emotional load, and daily logistics of diabetes and long‑term health conditions.

Understanding the Mental Load of Diabetes

Living with type 1 diabetes, or supporting a loved one who does, asks a lot of your mind. Numbers, alarms, decisions, overnight vigilance, invisible labor. Most people around you don’t see it, and most therapists don’t fully understand it.

You don’t want to spend your sessions explaining what a CGM trend means or why a 2 a.m. low can derail an entire day. You don’t want to have to explain the experience of living in a body that feels unpredictable or unsafe. You want a space where the medical realities are already understood, so we can focus on you: your relationships, your identity, your nervous system, your capacity, your sense of ease.

Many of my clients come in carrying:

  • Cognitive and emotional fatigue from constant data interpretation

  • Strain in partnerships when diabetes becomes a quiet third presence in the relationship

  • Medical hypervigilance that keeps the body in a near-constant state of alert

  • Identity shifts after diagnosis or after years of being the responsible one

  • Performance pressure at work, at home, at the gym, in parenting, layered on top of health demands

  • Complex relationships with their bodies including frustration, grief, or feeling at odds with a body that no longer behaves the way it once did

Therapy becomes a place to exhale, recalibrate, and rebuild a life that feels sustainable.

Who I Work With

This practice supports several groups who carry a uniquely heavy version of the diabetes mental load. Each has its own emotional landscape, and each deserves care that speaks directly to their lived reality.

High‑Performing Adults & Professionals

Many of my clients are leaders, clinicians, entrepreneurs, athletes, or people who are used to functioning at a high level and are tired of doing it while carrying a silent medical load.

Common themes include:

  • Quiet burnout from constant data interpretation

  • Pressure to perform at work or in a sport while managing unpredictable glucose patterns

  • Difficulty resting and recovering because the nervous system is always half‑alert

  • Feeling like diabetes is a private burden no one else sees

Therapy becomes a place to recalibrate, soften the edges, and rebuild capacity without sacrificing ambition or health.

Adults Living With Type 1 Diabetes

Whether you were diagnosed as a child or as an adult, T1D shapes identity in ways that are hard to articulate. Clients often come in navigating:

  • Alarm fatigue and trend‑watching exhaustion

  • Perfectionism fueled by data

  • Fear of lows, especially overnight

  • Frustration with the “always on” nature of diabetes

  • The tension between wanting freedom and needing vigilance

We work toward a steadier nervous system, more flexible thinking, and a relationship with diabetes that feels less consuming.

Parents of Children With Type 1 Diabetes

Parenting a child with type 1 diabetes is its own emotional ecosystem. You may be carrying:

  • Overnight vigilance and disrupted sleep

  • Fear that feels rational but exhausting

  • The invisible labor of managing school, activities, and social situations

  • Relationship strain when one parent becomes the primary manager

  • Guilt, worry, or the sense of never fully relaxing

Therapy offers a place to process the fear, the responsibility, and the identity shifts that come with parenting a child with T1D, without needing to explain the basics.

Adults Managing Chronic Health Conditions

Not all chronic conditions are diabetes, but many share similar emotional patterns: vigilance, fatigue, identity shifts, and the pressure to keep going. Clients often seek support for:

  • Navigating medical uncertainty

  • Balancing health demands with work and relationships

  • Feeling misunderstood by providers or loved ones

  • Rebuilding trust in their body

We create space for the emotional reality of long‑term health management, not just the logistics.

Why Work With a Therapist Who’s Also a CDCES

My work sits at the intersection of clinical social work, diabetes care, and behavioral health.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist, I bring a deep understanding of metabolic physiology, medical decision-making, and the emotional realities of long-term health conditions. I’ve spent years in diabetes clinics supporting individuals and families, and I understand how health stress shows up in relationships, work, and identity.

In therapy, we integrate approaches like:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • EMDR for trauma, medical trauma, and chronic stress

  • Somatic and nervous-system regulation

  • Attachment and relational work

  • Parts work and IFS-informed interventions

The goal isn’t perfection or rigid control. It’s capacity, clarity, and a life that feels more spacious, even with the realities of diabetes.

Who Else I Work With

Beyond Chronic Illness: Additional Areas of Care

While my practice specializes in diabetes and medical trauma, my somatic and trauma-informed approach extends to adults navigating:

  • Anxiety & Somatic Trauma Resolution: Helping your nervous system step down from chronic hypervigilance, panic, or feeling disconnected from your body.

  • LGBTQ+ & Gender-Affirming Therapy: Navigating identity, dysphoria, bodily autonomy, and life transitions in a supportive space.

  • Burnout & Boundary Fatigue: Building sustainable ways to live and work without carrying constant overwhelm.

A Space That Understands Your Reality

If you’re carrying the mental load of diabetes or another chronic health condition, you don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to educate your therapist as you go.

You deserve a space where your health reality is understood, your emotional experience is centered, and your relationships and identity have room to breathe.
